Everyone knows that a password that is too simple is an accident waiting to happen.  The easy way out is to use a password that is based on things like your birthdate, the last four digits of your drivers licence, your kids name or your pet’s name (Paris Hilton did that and got hacked), if you are one of those people then “you are in trouble” and it is only time till you get hacked.

It has become increasingly clearer that a passphrase or a long password that contains letters, numbers and special characters is much harder to break. Here’s an example of a long password that looked pretty good:

@s86Ld15Js88Rp87. When it comes to passwords our biggest problem is how to we remember them.  But…how would you remember this one? Ouch!

It’s based off a fictitious Smith family with a daughter named Alison and a son named Julian. They have a 2015 Landrover Discovery and own a business called Regal Pharmacy opened in 1987. Now, let’s take those facts and look at the password:

@s86 – Alison Smith, born in 1986
Ld15 – Landrover Discovery, 2015 model
Js88 – Julian Smith, born in1988
Rp87 – You guessed it, Regal Pharmacy, opened in 1987.

He simply took the first initials of everyone and everything involved, then the year they were born (or built :-). It’s a lot tougher to guess a password like that, but still very easy to remember. You can follow his example or make up your own method.

In any event, you get a much stronger password that’s a lot harder to crack.
